What is something you're interested in that has nothing to do with your major?
I'm interested in D&D and table top roleplaying games.
What is something you tried to do/learn that didn't work out? What did you learn from that experience?
I used to play chess, but never got super into it. I learnt that I'm not motivated by competition, but I do enjoy strategy games.
What does a well lived life look like to you?
A well lived life looks like one that has given me the freedom to spend my time as I see fit. Looking back on my life, I'll feel I've lived well if I believe I've created something that people find meaningful, enjoyable, and memorable.
Why did you decide to study at ArtCenter?
I decided to study at ArtCenter, because I wanted to refine my Figma skills in an environment with likeminded people (art kids not IxD people).
What's your favorite gallery/museum in Los Angeles?
I hate LA. But probably the Huntington Gardens. I miss trees.
What has been the most important class you've taken at ArtCenter so far?
Probably Advanced VxD Studio 7 with Brian Boyl. It gave me seven weeks just to dive in depth into research for a concept I was passionate about. Ultimately, it let me bring together my interests inside and outside of IxD and create a unique project for my portfolio.
What exciting projects have you been working on?
I've been working with some friends on a shopping vendor app, which has let me connect with people my age in the tech industry, though the project itself is not anything particularly interesting. Recently though, I've been designing an app for worldbuilders and the game masters of roleplaying games that organizes their notes and tracks their players goals! The aesthetics are a bit out of my comfort zone, but that's what makes it interesting.
What's a hill you're willing to die on?
AI has really hurt the software engineering industry. It makes it extraordinarily easy for software to be produced, which has begun to pollute the market with mediocre products (and will continue to do so more severely as it remains unrestricted).
If you could swap lives with any professor you've had, who would it be and why?
I'd swap lives with Robert Kett, who used to teach Transpacific Human History. He meets anthropologists and museum curators all around the world (he's currently not employed at ArtCenter and living in Hong Kong, working as a curator for a museum). I do love museums and all forms of history, so working as an anthropologist and traveling does sound like the dream to me.
What are your favorite pieces of media (songs, movies, books, etc.)?
I'll give one of each! I love the song Racing Mount Pleasant from the album Racing Mount Pleasant by the band Racing Mount Pleasant, I love the movie Everything Everywhere All at Once, and my favorite book is Small Gods by Terry Pratchett.
